ENG v PAK 2020: Jonathan Trott appointed England's batting coach for Pakistan Tests

Jeetan Patel and Graeme Welch will also join English coaching set-up.

Former England batsman Jonathan Trott was on Monday (August 3) appointed as England’s batting coach for the upcoming Pakistan Test series starting on Wednesday (August 5).

The three-match Test series between England and Pakistan will get underway at the Emirates Old Trafford with the opening Test on Wednesday followed by the next two games in the Ageas Bowl in Southampton on 13 and 21 August. They will also play three T20Is next month.

The former Warwickshire batsman, who retired from all forms of cricket in 2018, has previously served as batting coach of the England Under-19 team for the 2018 World Cup, as well as, was a part of England Lions’ coaching staff in Australia earlier this year. He also temporarily served as Kent batting coach.

The South African-born Trott, who scored almost 19,000 first-class runs in his career apart from representing England in 52 Tests, 68 ODIs and seven T20Is in his career, will now take over from Graham Thorpe as the batting consultant of England for the upcoming Test series against Pakistan.

The 39-year-old, who scored 3835 Test runs from 2009-2015 for England, will be joined by former New Zealand spinner Jeetan Patel and Warwickshire seamer Graeme Welch at the English support staff for the upcoming home Test series against Pakistan.

Noteworthy, Welch has been appointed as a pace bowling consultant while Patel will serve as the spin consultant for the Pakistan Tests. On the other hand, Bruce French is the wicketkeeping coach, while Carl Hopkinson will be the head fielding coach.
