West Indies captain Jason Holder was left disappointed as his team failed to show the kind of resolve it did with the bat in the previous game and "succumbed" to a 113-run defeat in the second Test in Manchester against England. 

The visitors collapsed twice inside two days, getting bundled out for 287 and 198 in response to England's 469/9 and 129/9 (declared in both innings) and allowing the hosts to level the three-match series 1-1.

"English bowlers tend to bowl some long spells and we fought through pretty decent periods in the game but maybe (we need) a little bit more grit, a little bit more determination to get through one or two challenging spells," Holder was quoted as saying at the post-match presentation ceremony. 

The skipper was honest in assessment of his team's batting line-up, where batsmen got starts but failed to bat big after letting bowlers pile on the pressure for longer periods of time. 

"More or less when we’ve found ourselves in challenging spells, we’ve succumbed to it, probably at the end of a really good spell," admitted Holder. 

"Too many of our batters got caught on the crease, something that we’ve really got to pay a little bit more attention to."

"On a surface like this, you’ve really got to commit forward or back and into a position to make a good decision over whether to play or leave."

West Indies remains a draw short of retaining the Wisden Trophy, but for a positive result, the team's batting and even bowling will have to have a much better game in the third Test, starting July 24. 

"We’re here to fight, I’m sure the guys are really feeling this loss and we can go into this last game and give it our all," Holder concluded.
