ENG v PAK 2020: Abid Ali cleared of concussion after a blow to helmet during intrasquad match

Pakistan opening batsman Abid Ali has been cleared of concussion a day after being hit on the helmet while playing in a four-day intra-squad match on the tour of England in Derby on Sunday (July 19).

Ali was struck on the helmet while fielding at forward short-leg on day three of the intra-squad warm-up game on Sunday afternoon in preparation for the three-match Test series against England starting on August 5 at the Old Trafford.

On Monday, July 20, Pakistan Cricket Board has confirmed in a statement that Abid has shown no signs of concussion but has undergone a precautionary CT scan which has also returned normal.

While the Pakistan team doctor Sohail Saleem said Abid is doing fine and he will return to training on Wednesday (July 22).

Dr Saleem stated said: “Abid is absolutely fine and will be available to resume training on Wednesday following Tuesday's rest day. He underwent a precautionary CT scan which has also returned normal.”

Noteworthy, the Pakistan team is currently playing a four-day intra-squad match as part of its preparation for the upcoming Test series against England. The two teams will play three Tests and as many T20 Internationals during the series to be held at the bio-secure venues at the empty stadium.

The opening Test of the three-match Test series begins at Old Trafford, Manchester on August 5.
