Criticism that Jofra Archer has been facing after the revelation of his breach of the bio-secure protocols, that could've put the entire Test series against West Indies at risk amid COVID-19 pandemic, has led his teammate Ben Stokes to urge the entire squad to provide mental support to the right-arm pacer. 

Archer, who did self-admittedly make a huge error in going back home after the first Test in Southampton, instead of arriving straight at the Old Trafford ground in Manchester for the start of the second Test on Thursday (July 18), was left out of the playing XI and asked to go into five-day isolation before he could rejoin the side on twice testing COVID-19 negative.

"We really need to be there to support Jofra right now," Stokes was quoted as saying by Sky Sports. "Obviously, he's a big talking point and he is by himself because of everything else going on at the moment."

"It's making sure that it doesn't feel like he's by himself. The worst thing we could do right now as a team is just leave him and see him in five or six days' time."

"It's all good being there for people when things are going well and smoothly but what really comes through is how you operate with someone when they need you the most," added the England vice-captain. 

Before Stokes' tender comment, even coach Chris Silverwood publicly supported Archer, saying he is "a massive part of the group" despite his mistake. 

"At times like this people are very, very tough and you can feel like you are all by yourself, but I don't think anybody is going to allow that to happen," he had said.

"Jofra's a massive part of this group, as everybody is. If it was anybody else bar Jofra it would be exactly the same."
