Pakistan's wrist-spinner Yasir Shah is working on his googly and batting, as the veteran cricketer is looking for an all-rounder show in the next month’s three-match Test series against England.

The 34-year-old is currently under a 14-day quarantine period along with the rest of the Pakistan squad at Worcester – where the tourists have already started their preparations for the Test series and 3-match T20I series against England series with a two-day inter-squad scenario-based practice match here.

Pakistan squad will travel to Derbyshire on July 13 as the T20I series will get underway from July 30 – which will mark the return of international cricket for the side after COVID-19-forced hiatus.

Ahead of the much-anticipated Test series, Yasir revealed that he has been working a lot on his googlies, as the leg-spinner is looking to trouble the England batsmen with his “most important weapon” in the Test series starting on August 5 in Manchester followed by the 2nd and 3rd Tests at Southampton.

Yasir, who is currently working on his variation with the spin bowling coach Mushtaq Ahmed in England, is hoping that the dry wickets in England will aid his googlies to trouble the hosts in the upcoming series.

Shah told ICC from Worcester: “My googly is coming out well. In the two-day match, all the googlies I bowled landed well and spun well. I think it will be my most important weapon.”

Hoping “the English wickets will assist the spinners”, the veteran further added, “Counties usually sign spinners for July to September because in these three months, spinners get help on dry wickets.”

Apart from taking 213 wickets, the right-hander has also scored 707 runs in 39 Tests that he played for Pakistan so far including maiden Test ton against Australia in Adelaide last year and now he is aiming to notch up another hundred in the upcoming Test series in England.

Yasir signed off by saying, “I am working on my batting in the nets. When the team needs you, you need to step up. So, I do have a target, of scoring a century in England. If I can hit a hundred at Adelaide, I can do it here as well.”
