Sri Lanka cricket board, in an official statement, announced that Bangladesh’s upcoming tour has been postponed to a later date, which will be announced in the future. Bangladesh was supposed to play three Tests against Sri Lanka as part of the ICC World Test Championship, starting July.

The Coronavirus pandemic has wreaked havoc on the cricketing schedules all over the world and though some nations are getting back to their feet as far as the sport is concerned, many of the countries are still reeling from a spike in positive cases of the virus.

Bangladesh is one such country where the cases are on a steady rise and this has meant that the players have not been able to practice and train outdoors, something the Bangladesh Cricket Board took notice of.

“Sri Lanka Cricket wishes to announce that the Bangladesh Cricket Board has informed SLC that a conducive environment has still not arrived for their players to take part in an international cricket series, purely due to the lack of preparation for its players, caused by the COVID – 19 pandemic,” the official statement said.  

“Hence, The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and Sri Lanka Cricket have agreed that Bangladesh National Team’s tour of Sri Lanka which was scheduled to be held during July 2020 will not take place and will be deferred to a mutually planned later date,” the statement continued.

Earlier, New Zealand had also postponed their tour to Bangladesh, while India postponed its tours to Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka, both of which were to take place in months of July-August.
