ENG v WI 2020: ‘No issues with my right elbow whatsoever’, Jofra Archer hopes to play all three Tests

Archer had sustained elbow injury during the South Africa tour earlier this year.

Jofra Archer | AFPBefore COVID-19 rocked the sporting events, England speedster Jofra Archer was under rehab after sustaining injury to his right elbow.

Under normal circumstances, he would have returned to action for Sussex in May but the deadly pandemic resulted in the indefinite suspension of County Championship.

As international cricket is set to be resumed with the England-West Indies Test series from July 8, Archer on Tuesday (June 23) confirmed that he has fully recovered from the elbow injury and hoped to play in all three Tests against the country of his berth next month

"This past fortnight has been a lot different from the previous few weeks of practice as the intensity when you introduce batsmen goes up without you even noticing," Archer wrote in his column for the Daily Mail.

“So far everything feels like clockwork. Crunch in, crunch out, my body feels fresh, and there are no issues with my right elbow whatsoever, touch wood.”

The first Test will be played from at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton followed by the next two games at the Old Trafford ground in Manchester from 16-20 and 24-28 July respectively. Both venues have on-site hotels.

“Despite the fact that the three matches of this series are played in such a short space of time ... I could play all three — but everyone will be a bit cautious in terms of workload, thinking about the body and what lies ahead,” Jofra stated.

“... Bowling has been a gradual progression but despite the fact that I was resting my elbow injury when we went into lockdown in March, I have followed similar loads to the other England Test bowlers.”
