Financially weakened by the game's suspension in the wake of COVID-19 lockdown, cricket boards across the globe are exploring options to safeguard the upcoming lucrative fixtures.

One such marquee series in the future is India’s tour Down Under, where Virat Kohli and company will face the Tim Paine-led Australian side in four Tests.

While the tour is currently under threat due to the deadly outbreak, BCCI treasurer Arun Dhumal on Friday (May 8) said Team India are willing to quarantine themselves in Australia for two weeks so that the series scheduled for December-January goes ahead.

“There is no choice (but to quarantine themselves in Australia) – everyone will have to do that. You would want to resume the cricket,” Dhumal quoted as saying by The Sydney Morning Herald.

“Two weeks is not that long a lockdown. That would be ideal for any sportsman because when you are in quarantine for such a long period, then going to another country and having a two-week lockdown, it would be a good thing to do. We’ll have to see what the norms are post this lockdown,” he added.

As of now, Australia's borders are sealed till September 30 to contain the spread of Coronavirus. The travel restrictions might jeopardize the country’s cricketing summer of 2020/21, in which they are also due to host the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup from October 18 to November 15.

The stakeholders are expected to face approximately USD 300 million loss in TV revenue if the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2020-21 gets called off.

Meanwhile, Dhumal also made it clear that Cricket Australia’s request to play a five-Test series will not be accepted by BCCI.

“Given the revenue loss they will have on account of lockdown, post lockdown they will want to have revenue and revenue most likely will come from ODIs or T20s much more than a Test match,” he said.
