West Indies' Test tour to England postponed due to COVID-19 pandemic

West Indies' Test tour to England postponed due to COVID-19 pandemic

The Calypso Kings were due to travel to UK for three important WTC fixtures.

England-West Indies Test series has been postponed | GettyCricket boards from England and West Indies mutually agreed to postpone the Calypso Kings' three-Test tour to the UK scheduled for June in wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The three World Test Championship fixtures were always under threat because of the deadly outbreak, which has led to suspension of all cricketing activities in England and the rest of the world.

The ECB, having earlier suspended all domestic, international cricket in England and Wales till May 28, on Friday (April 24) extended the period to July 1.

"We continue to be in regular dialogue with the ECB on when and how we might be able to rearrange the Test Series," Cricket West Indies (CWI) CEO, Johnny Grave, said in a media release. "Clearly playing in June is now not possible and we will continue our discussions with the ECB and other Internationals Boards on trying to find new dates. We will only travel to England to play the series if our players can be assured that it is safe to do so."

The first Test of the series was to be held at the Oval from June 4-8, followed by matches at Edgbaston (June 12-16) and Lord's (June 25-29), respectively.

"Our respective Medical Teams are beginning to discuss how this series could be played whist guaranteeing the health and safety of our players and support team. We will be as flexible as we can without compromising the safety of our team," Grave added.
