AUS v NZ 2019-20: Relief for Australia as Warner returns to practise after blow to right hand

The in-form southpaw evaded an untimely injury just prior to the Boxing Day Test.

Warner was in alarming pain at the time | GettyDavid Warner hurt his left hand in the nets preparing for the Boxing Day Test against New Zealand but the in-form opener resumed practise after a while much to the relief of the Australian team management.

At the time of the blow from the batting coach Graeme Hick at the MCG, Warner immediately took his gloves off in pain and attended the team doctor.

The 33-year-old then iced his hand for a bit and continued training. He is very unlikely to miss the second Test especially in the form he has been scoring 551 runs at 183.66, including an epic 335 against Pakistan at the Adelaide Oval, since the end of his struggles during the Ashes in UK.

For the Kiwis, Trent Boult seems to have recovered really well from the muscle injury he suffered last month as he delivered a fine spell in the warm-up game for Victoria state XI after missing the first Test in Perth.

The surface at the MCG is expected to do a lot more for the bowlers than it has in the last couple of years with curator Matt Page taking good note of the criticism the ground has faced.

Finding the right balance there will be key as a recent Sheffield Shield game between Victoria and Western Australia got abandoned due to a misbehaving track.
