The first-ever Test match on Pakistan soil after a decade started at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi between the home side and Sri Lanka on December 11. Pakistani crowd was absolutely crazy to see their stars playing in front of themselves.

Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to bat first, while Pakistan gave Test debuts to Abid Ali and Usman Shinwari and went in with four fast bowlers in Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah, and Mohammad Abbas. Meanwhile, Fawad Alam was overlooked for this match.

Dimuth Karunaratne made 59 and Oshada Fernando (40) added 96 runs for the first wicket before Shaheen Afridi removed the Lankan skipper. Naseem Shah then picked the wicket of Fernando and Usman opened his account in Tests by removing Kusal Mendis for 10 runs.

Mohammad Abbas accounted for Dinesh Chandimal for 2 runs, but the experienced Angelo Mathews made 31 before falling to Naseem. The day was called to an early end due to bad light with Dhananjaya de Silva unbeaten on 38 and Niroshan Dickwella on 11, with 68.1 overs of play possible.

Naseem Shah picked two wickets while other bowlers in Abbas, Shaheen, and Shinwari picked a wicket each.
