PAK v BAN 2020: Pakistan might host Bangladesh for a D/N Test in Karachi

Bangladesh played its first-ever D/N Test against India in Kolkata last month.

The pink ball version is gradually picking up | GettyTaking cue from their Indian counterparts, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) officials too have proposed a Day-Night Test against Bangladesh in Karachi as part of the two-Test home series in January-February next year. Bangladesh just recently embraced the pink-ball version for the very first time in Kolkata, going down by an innings inside two and half days versus the mighty Indians.

"The idea behind encouraging day-night cricket and offering Bangladesh is to counter the problem of dwindling crowds," PCB chairman Ehsan Mani told ESPNcricinfo

"We intend to add at least one day-night Test in our home itinerary. The benefit, other than better crowds, is that we can have an opportunity to extend our cricketing season. Like in Pakistan if the season ends in the mid-April or earlier, we can extend it by having day-night games to fill in an empty window."

Unlike the Bangladeshis, Pakistan players have fair amount of experience of the pink-ball game through numerous first-class matches the PCB has organised since the concept was first trialled with the final of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy in 2011 and matches in Australia across the last two tours besides the Tests against West Indies Sri Lanka in UAE.

"It's really unfair to play Test cricket in front of empty stadiums and with this idea we hope crowds will turn up for this unique experience after their job in evening."

"Now, almost every Test-cricket-playing member has started playing day-night cricket and we think at least one day-night Test should be played in a series," Mani added.

"Even India captain Virat Kohli who was bit cautious about the day-night Test, now after the recent game [against Bangladesh] at home turned into an ambassador of this idea so it's good for the future."
