IND v SA 2019: Bharat Arun says team aspiring to be no.1 needs to learn to adapt; lauds Mohammad Shami

Arun praised the way Shami bowled in the second innings.

Mohammad Shami picked 5/35 to rout South Africa | TwitterTeam India registered a thumping 203-run win over South Africa in the first match of the three-Test -series in Vizag and added 40 points to their 120 in the ICC Test Championship points table. Man of the Match Rohit Sharma slammed two centuries in his debut as an opener and hit a record 13 sixes in the match.

South Africa just couldn’t cope with the pitch behaving abnormally in the second innings and was reduced to 70/8 at one stage. Speaking about adaptation to the surface they are playing at, Indian bowling coach Bharat Arun said, “To be a good number one team in the world, any conditions that come your way, you got to accept and say these are home conditions. If you want to be the number team in the world, you got to look at the wickets and adapt your bowling instantaneously to be successful.

Arun was also all praises for Mohammad Shami, who scalped five wickets in the second innings and helped India go 1-0 up. “It was a purely magnificent spell by Shami that put us back in the game. Otherwise, I think given the conditions it would have been very very difficult. I thought South Africans batted exceptionally well in the first, but in the second innings they were little hesitant to Shami's kind of bowling,” Arun said.

India will now face South Africa in the second Test of the series in Pune from October 10.
