Joe Root | GETTY

England skipper Joe Root had to go through a lot of pain to survive 168 deliveries on the third day of the fourth Test. Root, who scored 71 runs, was hit multiple times on the sensitive areas.

Mitchell Starc hit him in the lower abdomen first, and later it was Pat Cummins whose delivery went on to hit him above the knee. Root was in a lot of pain, and it was clearly visible with his reaction. The English captain somehow gathered himself and kept on fighting as the team needed him badly.

The first hit in his lower abdomen was very painful. It can be ascertained by the fact that his abdominal guard was broken in two pieces. The delivery bowled by Starc was 140kmph of speed.

Here is the video:

Root and Burns took the team from 25/2 to 166/3. But as soon as the partnership was broken, England lost quick wickets. They ended with 200/5 on the third day.
