Ashes 2019: WATCH – David Warner takes a blinder behind the keeper to remove Joe Root for 77 runs

Ashes 2019: WATCH – David Warner takes a blinder behind the keeper to remove Joe Root for 77 runs

England are chasing 359 runs to win the third Test and started the day on 156/3.

David Warner picked an amazing catch to send Joe Root back to pavilion | GettyThe third Test of the Ashes 2019 between England and Australia at Leeds, Headingley has become highly interesting as the home team aims to chase down a stiff target of 359 runs with almost two days in hand and seven wickets to go at the start of the day’s play.

England had finished the third day on 156/3 with Joe Root on 75* and Ben Stokes on 2*, after Joe Denly had fallen for a well made and patient half-century off 155 balls. The third day was a big one for both teams as Australia eyed seven wickets and England had survival on their mind.

Joe Root was looking good and Tim Paine, the Australian skipper, introduced spinner Nathan Lyon in order to get some overs of spin in with the new ball in the sight. Despite the expectation of Root to play safely against the Australian spinner, the England captain decided to move down the wicket to play the offie and the ball nicked the bat and went past the keeper, where Warner in first slip dived to his left to take a sharp catch.

Warner was blinded by the movement of Root and then had to keep an eagle’s eye on the ball, to grasp it in one fluid motion, to send the batsman back to the pavilion on 77, as England slipped to 159/4, in their quest of keeping Australia from retaining the Ashes urn.

Here is the video of Warner’s brilliant catch:
