Indian women’s cricket team is currently hosting Australia in a one-off Test at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

The hosts dominated the visitors in the first three days of the four-day Test match. India bowled out Australia for 261 in the first innings before posting 406 runs on the board, taking a considerable lead of 187 runs.

At stumps on Day 3, the Aussie women were 233/5 to take a handy 46-run lead in the second innings.

During the third day’s play, a small controversy unfolded in the 80th over, involving the Australian skipper Alyssa Healy and her Indian counterpart Harmanpreet Kaur.

After playing a delivery from Kaur, Healy stepped out of her crease. Just at this moment, the Indian skipper collected the ball swiftly in her follow-through and aimed it towards the batter before she appealed for “obstructing the field’.

However, Harmanpreet’s plea was rejected by on-field umpires Anil Chaudhary and N Janani.

According to MCC’s law 37.1, “Either batter if out Obstructing the field if, he/she willfully attempts to obstruct or distract the fielding side by word or action. A batter shall not be out Obstructing the field if the obstruction or distraction is accidental, or the obstruction is in order to avoid injury, or in the case of the striker, he/she makes a second or subsequent strike to guard his/her wicket lawfully.”

Nonetheless, Harmanpreet Kaur had the last laugh as he dismissed Alyssa Healy LBW on the very next delivery.
