The second T20I of the five-match series between Indian women and Australian women was played at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on December 11, 2022. Australia came into this match with a lead of 1-0.
Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and chose to bowl first and revealing that the team was unchanged. Alyssa Healy, on the other hand, said that Heather Graham and Phoebe Litchfield were making their debuts for Australia.
Australia continued their dominating batting in this match as well as they posted 187/1 in 20 overs with Deepti Sharma picking the sole wicket of Healy for 25 runs. Beth Mooney made 82* in 54 balls with 12 fours, while Tahlia McGrath smacked 70* in 51 balls with 10 fours and 1 six.
In reply, Smriti Mandhana led from the front with a scintillating knock of 79 in 49 balls with 9 fours and 4 sixes. She got help from Harmanpreet (21) and Richa Ghosh (26* with 3 sixes), while Devika Vaidya hit 11* in 5 balls, including a four off the last ball when five runs were needed to tie the match, with India finishing on 187/5.
In the super over, Heather Graham bowled to Smriti Mandhana and Richa Ghosh. And despite being hit for a six off the first ball by Ghosh, Graham dismissed her. Harmanpreet then took a single and gave the strike to Mandhana, who smacked a four and a six off the next two balls and took three runs off the last ball of super over to make it 20/1 for India.
Ashleigh Gardner and Alyssa Healy came to open the innings with Renuka Singh bowling the super over. Healy hit Renuka for a four and a single in the first two balls and then Renuka hit back with the wicket of Gardner.
Tahlia McGrath took a single off the next ball, and though Healy hit Renuka for a four and a six off the last two balls, India managed to win the super over by 4 runs and leveled the series 1-1. This was also the first loss in any format in international cricket for the Australian women’s team in 2022.
The cricket fraternity was all praises for the Indian women’s team and lauded Smriti Mandhana in particular for her brilliant batting in the match and super over.
