Harmanpreet Kaur | GettyIndian captain Harmanpreet Kaur has been ruled out of the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) Season 8 due to a back injury.

Harmanpreet plays for the Melbourne Renegades in the T20 competition. It is a massive setback for them as she was the ‘Player of the Tournament’ in WBBL season 7, having amassed 403 runs and claiming 15 wickets in 13 games.

Kaur missed the Renegades’ opening two matches this season as she was leading India in the Women’s Asia Cup. English batter Eve Jones was roped in as an overseas replacement player by the team.

“Harmanpreet was fantastic for us last season and we were looking forward to having her as part of our squad again this year, but unfortunately she has been ruled out through injury,” Melbourne Renegades General Manager, James Rosengarten, said in a statement.

“Eve will stay on with our squad for at least the next couple of matches, as we work through the best strategy for our squad for the remainder of the tournament,” he added.

Melbourne Renegades have a 1-1 record after their two matches against Adelaide Strikers and Brisbane Heat. They will take on Brisbane Heat in their next fixture on Friday (October 21).
