Indian women’s team skipper Harmanpreet Kaur wants her side to have a ‘killing attitude’ in the Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2022.

Women’s T20 cricket is making its debut at the Commonwealth Games. The games are slated to begin on Friday (29th July) with India taking on Australia in Edgbaston. They are placed in Group A, in which arch-rivals Pakistan and Barbados are also part of it.

The Indian team is coming on the back of dominating performances against Sri Lanka and would be hoping to make their mark on the big stage as well.

They had quite a few practice sessions ahead of their tournament opener and would be high on confidence. Many fans, pundits and current cricketers have sent women’s teams their wishes and are backing them to do good.

Speaking on the eve of the opener against Australia at the Birmingham Games, Harmanpreet Kaur recalled how during the Sri Lanka tour Pooja Vastrakar suggested the idea of playing with a ‘killing attitude’. She said that they are trying to follow that approach and everyone in the team is talking about the same.

“During the Sri Lanka tour, we had a meeting with the players. I asked the girls how they want the team to play. Pooja gave a good answer about the killing attitude. Right now we are working on that whether we are training or playing. Everyone is talking about that in the team. All players have bought into this and Pooja is someone who comes up with funny ideas all the time," Harmanpreet Kaur said.

Harmanpreet said that she is in the good shape and all they need to do is execute their plans well.

"Things are looking well. We have got three practice sessions so far. We are in great shape. The conditions will help the bowlers but it will be good for batting as well. However, we just need to worry about the execution. We have a balanced side and we need to shuffle our batting and bowling here and there for the right combination,” She said.

After the Australia clash, India will play its arch-rivals on Sunday (31st July). Harmanpreet also talked about the clash with the Asian nation, saying that although the stakes are high, they will give their best.

“We know the stakes are high but when you are playing you just think about doing well on the day. When we were kids we have seen the men's Indo-Pak games. We used to get excited as kids but as players, these things don't matter,” she concluded.
