India women's opener Smriti Mandhana was forced to retire hurt during the World Cup warm-up match against South Africa in Rangiora on Sunday (February 27). She was hit on the head by South Africa pacer Shabnim Ismail's bouncer.
An ICC report said that Mandhana was initially declared fit after an assessment by the team doctor, but soon retired hurt after an over and a half following another consultation.

Mandhana looked visibly shaken after taking the blow but did not feel any concussion symptoms, according to the medical staff. She left the field later as a precautionary measure.
In their first warm-up match, India managed to win the game by 2 runs. Harmanpreet scored 103 off 114 deliveries and she also posted an 84-run stand with Yastika Bhatia, who scored 58 off 78 balls.
India scored 244/9 after being asked to bat first and in response, South Africa could only manage 242/7 in their 50 overs, with Rajeshwari Gayakwad picking up four wickets.
India are scheduled to play one more warm-up match, against West Indies, before the tournament kicks off.
