The Women's T20 Challenge is expected to be postponed because of the huge surge in COVID-19 cases in India which may affect the participation of the foreign players.]

Sources confirmed to Sportstar that it would be a challenge for the players from England, Australia, West Indies, New Zealand, and South Africa to travel, although BCCI has not made an official announcement regarding the Women's T20 Challenge.

"With various countries imposing travel restrictions to India, it definitely looks impossible for now to fly in the players. So at this point, things look difficult," the source said.

BCCI had planned to host the tournament in Delhi but the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) officials have not heard anything about the tournament so far from the board, confirmed Sportstar.

On Wednesday (April 28), India recorded over three lakh cases for the seventh straight day. India is the second worst-hit country after the US.

Even in the ongoing IPL tournament, a few players have pulled out because of the worsening condition in India. The BCCI officials agree that it looks 'highly unlikely that the women's tournament can be held now.

Australia has suspended all direct passenger flights from India due to the unprecedented spike in Covid-19 cases.
