Cricket Australia announces documentary on Australian Women’s Team named "The Record"

The Record will be launched on Amazon Prime Video on February 12.

Cricket Australia (CA) has on Monday (February 8) launched the trailer of the upcoming documentary named “The Record” based on the Australia Women’s Cricket Team.

“The Record” will depict the story of the Australian Women team's journey at the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2020 – where the hosts defeated India Women in the final to clinch the trophy for the record fifth time.

The documentary will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on February 12 (Friday).

Apart from the thrilling journey of the Australia Women in the tournament, the documentary “The Record” will also tell the equally daring off-field campaign to “fill the MCG” for the final of the 2020 ICC Women's T20 World Cup in Melbourne on International Women’s Day 2020.

The 2020 ICC Women's T20 World Cup held in February-March 2020 in Australia, which was a national finalist in the 2020 Australian Event Awards ‘Best Sporting Event’ category, was a ground-breaking women’s tournament that generated surprising television and digital audience numbers.

The Women's T20 World Cup 2020 also attracted an overall attendance of more than 136,000 fans to 23 matches played across six in Australia and even the final of the showpiece event between Australia and India witnessed by the record 86,174 spectators at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground on March 8.

Meanwhile, CA’s interim CEO Nick Hockley hopes the move to relieve Australia’s Women's T20 World Cup campaign will inspire the next generation of cricketers to aspire to play on the biggest stage of all.

The CA CEO Hockley said: “The documentation of Australia's ICC Women's T20 World Cup campaign has given us the opportunity to reflect on what was a monumental occasion for cricket.”

He signed off by saying, “I would like to thank everyone who played their part in bringing both the event and this documentary to life. Reliving this special moment in time will hopefully inspire the next generation of cricketers, both girls, and boys, to aspire to play on the biggest stage of all.”

Notably, the players and coaching staff featured in the documentary are Australian captain Meg Lanning, Australian Vice-captain Rachael Haynes, the Head Coach of the side Matthew Mott, Beth Mooney — who was crowned Player of the Tournament, Megan Schutt, Alyssa Healy, Ellyse Perry, Molly Strano, Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur, England captain Heather Knight, South African captain Dane van Niekerk, Thailand Captain Sornnarin Tippoch among others.
