U19CWC 2020: Cricket fraternity praises NZ U19’s sporting gesture of carrying injured WI batsman

Windies batsman suffered massive cramps and had to be helped off the field.

The New Zealand U19 team won their super league quarterfinal against West Indies U19 team in the ongoing youth World Cup in South Africa. However, more than the victory, the young Kiwi players were applauded for showing a tremendous sportsman spirit during the game.

During the West Indies' innings, Kirk McKenzie suffered cramps and was retired hurt at the end of the 43rd over. McKenzie came back to bat in the 48th over but he was dismissed on the very next delivery by Kristian Clarke.

The batsman struggled to walk off the field after the innings folded and then two New Zealand players- Jesse Tashkoff and pacer Joseph Field picked him up and carried him off the field, amidst applause from the crowd present there.

Even many other cricketers came on Twitter in order to praise the brilliant showing of camaraderie between the sides and applauded New Zealand players’ sportsman spirit.
