Kartik Tyagi, the mercurial U19 fast bowler from the Indian team, not only has the pace but also the attitude to go with it. And that attitude was on full display as India defeated Australia in the first quarter-final of the Super League in the ongoing ICC U19 World Cup.
India had registered 233/9 on the board after Australia had rocked their top order. Thanks to half-centuries from Yashasvi Jaiswal and Atharva Ankolekar and great support from Siddhesh Veer and Ravi Bishnoi; the young colts managed to put a decent total to defend.
Well, the bowlers didn’t disappoint a lot, as Kartik Tyagi led the demolition job with figures of 4/24 and that included three big wickets in the middle order of skipper Harvey, Hearne and Oliver Davies. He also picked the wicket of Patrick Rowe to add to the woes of Australia, who couldn’t compete and was bowled out for 159, with Akash Singh claiming three victims.
During the tense match, which was being fought tooth and nail, Australia’s Oliver Davies tried to derail Tyagi’s momentum, as he pointed his bat towards the bowler and said something. Tyagi gave it back verbally but took much sweeter revenge the next ball, which was a wide one and Davies nicked it into the hands of Yashasvi Jaiswal who was in the slip.
