Shivam Dube grateful for ‘unwavering support’ he got from Rohit Sharma, Rahul Dravid during T20 World Cup 2024

Dube rose to the occasion for India in the all-important final against South Africa.

Shivam Dube | GettyIndia all-rounder Shivam Dube has praised coach Rahul Dravid and skipper Rohit Sharma for constantly backing him during the triumphant T20 World Cup 2024 campaign that helped him to stay focused.

The southpaw did not have much impact with the bat in the showpiece event in the USA and West Indies, scoring 133 runs in eight innings with the highest score 34.

However, Dube rose to the occasion when the team needed him the most. His cameo of 16-ball 27 in the final against South Africa proved to be vital in India's title win.

In the summit clash, the Men in Blue were struggling at 106/4 after 13.3 overs when Dube joined Virat Kohli in the middle. The lanky left-hander stitched a crucial 57-run partnership with Kohli to propel India to 176/7 in 20 overs.

"The World Cup journey taught me a lot. The final was a crucial moment, and I am glad I could contribute to the team's efforts. Every match in the T20 World Cup was a learning experience, and the support from my teammates and fans kept me motivated. In the end, it's about giving your best for the team and making every opportunity count," Dube told IANS.

Despite his struggles with form, Dube remained part of India’s playing XI throughout the tournament. No wonder, he was grateful for the unwavering support he got from Rohit and Dravid.

"It was both challenging and motivating. It was a test of my mental strength and perseverance. The unwavering support from our captain and coach was incredible. They constantly backed me, encouraging me to stay positive and keep working hard. Their faith in my abilities and their guidance helped me stay focused and believe in myself. This experience has made me stronger and more determined to improve and contribute to the team's success in the future," Dube remarked.

After the T20 World Cup, Shivam Dube featured in the T20I series against Zimbabwe, where he got a chance to bat in one out of the three matches he played. He won the Player of the Match award for his 12-ball 26 in the fifth and final T20I of the series.
