The T20 World Cup-winning Indian team landed in New Delhi on Thursday (July 4) morning after a delay of a few days due to Hurricane Beryl in Barbados.
The weather was gloomy in the national capital with overnight rain. However, the fans still gathered at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in large numbers to welcome their heroes in grand style.
After landing at the Delhi airport, the players, their families and the staff members boarded the team bus and headed to ITC Maurya hotel
The Men in Blue arrived at the Delhi airport at 6:20 AM and immediately boarded the team bus, which took them to the ITC Maurya hotel in Chankyapuri.
At the hotel, the entire Indian squad received another round of cheers and fans couldn't stop shouting and singing songs before the dhols were waiting for them at the hotel entrance. It was at this moment, skipper Rohit Sharma could not hide his excitement and shook his legs with the dancers.
The hotel had its own preparations done, including a T20 World Cup trophy-shaped cake in colours of Indian jersey.
Upon entering the hotel, captain Rohit and head coach Rahul Dravid headed the cake-cutting ceremony. Star batter Virat Kohli and all-rounder also received a rousing reception from the hotel staff as they arrived to cut the cake.
The Indian team is set to leave for the Prime Minister's office and will be felicitated by PM Narendra Modi before travelling to Mumbai for an open-bus parade by the end of the day.
