BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) secretary Jay Shah has extended his helping hand to the stranded Indian media personnel in Barbados, offering them to fly with the Indian cricket team to Delhi on the special chartered flight.
Notably, the T20 World Cup-winning Indian team has been stuck in the island nation due to the Hurricane Beryl threat. Along with the team, several media personnel from the country have also been left stranded and they will be helped by Jay Shah in reaching home, India Today reported.
“Special thanks to @JayShah for taking the initiative and ‘rescuing’ stranded Indian media in Barbados. As a gesture, the 20-odd media contingent have been offered to fly out with the Indian team on the special chartered flight from Barbados to Delhi! The special flight will take off In a few hours and land Delhi around 4-5 Thursday morning,” India Today journalist Vikrant Gupta tweeted.
Team India defeated South Africa by seven runs in the T20 World Cup 2024 final to clinch the coveted title last Saturday (June 29). Since then, Rohit Sharma’s men have been confined to their hotel rooms in Barbados.
The hurricane, which was initially category 3, escalated into category 4 during this time. The adverse weather condition forced the authorities to shut down air travel.
Earlier, it was reported that the Men in Blue will leave Barbados by 6 PM local time on Tuesday (July 2) and reach Delhi by Wednesday evening. However, the latest update suggests that this plan has been changed.
According to Vikrant Gupta, the team won’t be able land in the national capital before the early hours of Thursday morning, July 4.
"The Indian team’s departure from Barbados and arrival into Delhi has further been delayed. Will keep you posted - right now it looks like they won’t land in Delhi before 4-5am Thursday morning," the veteran journalist tweeted.
The entire nation is waiting for the return of World Champions India as they can’t wait to honour the team for their historic triumph.
