T20 World Cup 2024: WATCH- “Situation aisa aa gaya”- Rohit Sharma says he didn’t want to retire from T20Is

Rohit Sharma retired from T20Is with 4231 runs in 159 games with 5 centuries to his name.

Rohit Sharma | ICCIndia captain Rohit Sharma called time on his T20I career after winning the T20 World Cup 2024, following the steps of his teammate Virat Kohli.

India defeated South Africa in the final of the T20 World Cup in Barbados on June 29 and Virat Kohli, who had won the Player of the Final, announced his retirement from the format during the presentation ceremony.

Then while talking to the reporters in the press conference, Rohit Sharma also announced his retirement from T20Is.

"This was my last game as well. No better time to say goodbye. I wanted this (trophy) badly. It's very hard to put in words. This is what I wanted and it happened. I was very desperate for this in my life. Happy that we crossed the line this time," he said in the presser.

Rohit retired from T20Is with 4231 runs from 159 matches, as the highest run-getter in the format, having made five hundreds and 32 fifties. He continues to be active in the Test and ODI formats.

Now a video of Rohit has gone viral in which he reveals the reason behind his retirement. In fact, Rohit can be seen saying that he didn’t want to retire from T20Is, but the situation made him do it.

"I didn't think that I would retire from T20Is, but the situation was such... I thought it was the perfect situation for me. Nothing better than winning the cup and saying goodbye," Rohit said in the video.
