The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced its 'Team of the Tournament' for the just-concluded T20 World Cup, jointly hosted by the West Indies and USA.
The Indian cricket team, which defeated South Africa in the final to lift the title, saw as many as six players making the cut. Surprisingly, not a single name from the Proteas side featured in the XI.
For the Indian team, skipper Rohit Sharma led the list at the top, thanks to his explosive batting in the tournament while dashing middle-order batter Suryakumar Yadav was included.
India’s pace duo of Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh also made the side alongside two all-rounders - Akshar Patel and Hardik Pandya, reflecting their dominance throughout the campaign.
Star batter Virat Kohli found no place in the team of the tournament despite winning Player-of-the-Match award in the final.
Following a historic semi-final finish, Afghanistan had three players making it to the ICC team - Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Rashid Khan and Fazalhaq Farooqi.
Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis and West Indies’ Nicholas Pooran complete the XI. While there was no South African representation in the main XI, pacer Anrich Nortje was named the 12th man.
