India won the T20 World Cup 2024 title after defeating South Africa in the final by 7 runs in Barbados on June 29. This is the second time India has won this title, with the first win coming in 2007.

Indian team was ecstatic after the win as it was also their first ICC title since 2013 and ended a run of three consecutive losses in ICC events in 2021 and 2023.

The Indian team's changing room was brimming with enthusiasm as they celebrated their victory. This time, BCCI secretary Jay Shah was invited to present the fielding medal award. Suryakumar Yadav was awarded a medal for his 'World Cup-winning' catch in the final over. Team India's custom of recognizing the finest fielding effort of the match came to a fitting conclusion.

David Miller had tonked a full toss from Hardik Pandya on the first ball of the last over with Proteas needing 16 runs. The ball soared towards long off, where Suryakumar Yadav first caught the ball and then threw it in the air as he crossed the boundary ropes.

Suryakumar reentered the field of play and completed the catch, to end all hopes of Proteas. Suryakumar's catch drew comparison to Kapil Dev's catch from the 1983 World Cup win.

Jay Shah presented the medal to Suryakumar, who was elated after receiving the award and flaunted his World Cup medal as well as the best fielding medal.

The official Instagram handle of the BCCI shared a special video of the ceremony and T Dilip hailed the entire team for the way.

"We talk about rising to the occasion in big games today. We just didn't rise, but we conquered today. The intensity, the camaraderie, the resilience, that we are shown today and also throughout the tournament, we are nothing short of extraordinary stuff like a pack of wolves. Well, Rahul and Rohit keep saying everybody knew their role. But together we hunted every opportunity which came our way, leaving no stone unturned," T Dilip said.

Thank you so much, sir, for giving me this opportunity and collecting this medal from Jay sir," Suryakumar said.
