Jasprit Bumrah produced a fantastic spell to script India’s narrow six-run victory over Pakistan in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, New York on Sunday (June 9).
The right-arm quick made the Pakistani batters dance to his tunes on a two-paced pitch, where the Men in Blue were bowled out for 119 in 19 overs.
Bumrah was exceptional with the new ball as well as in the death overs, returning with the figures of 3 for 14 in his four overs to help India restrict the arch-rivals to 113/7. Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan and Iftikhar Ahmed were his victims.
After his match-winning performance, Jasprit Bumrah commented that the pitch improved as the sun came out, and he focused on hitting the seam as much as possible while bowling.
"It feels really good. We felt we were a little under, and the wicket got a little better after the sun came out. We were really disciplined, so it felt good. I tried to hit the seam as much as I could and be as clear as possible with my execution. It all came out well, so I felt happy," Bumrah said at the post-match presentation.
The pace spearhead also appreciated the large, enthusiastic crowd that showed up to support the Indian team.
"Felt like we were playing in India, really happy with the support and that gives us energy on the field. We focus on the now. We have played two games and played really well. You stick to your processes and look to play well," he remarked.
Jasprit Bumrah was deservedly adjudged Player-of-the-Match for his heroics with the ball against Pakistan in New York.
This was India’s second consecutive victory in the ongoing T20 World Cup and they are currently leading the Group A points table. On the other hand, Pakistan sit in fourth place after losing both their matches to the USA and India, making their chances of reaching the Super 8 slim.
The Rohit Sharma-led side will next face USA in New York on Wednesday (June 12), while Babar Azam’s team will take on Canada at the same venue on Tuesday (June 11).
