T20 World Cup 2024: WATCH- Naseem Shah walks off crying as Pakistan falls 6 runs short of India's 119

This was Pakistan's second straight loss in T20 World Cup 2024.

Naseem Shah walks off with tears in his eyes after Pakistan lost to India | GettyIndia and Pakistan played a thriller encounter at the Nassau County Cricket Stadium in New York in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 on June 9. India had come into this match having defeated Ireland, while Pakistan had lost to the USA in their respective tournament openers.

Pakistan won the toss as the game was delayed by rain and chose to field first. India lost Virat Kohli for 4 runs and after a few good shots, Rohit Sharma also walked back for 13 runs. Rishabh Pant top-scored with 42, while Akshar Patel made 20 runs as India collapsed from 84/4 in 11.2 overs to 119 all out in 19 overs.

Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf took three wickets each for Pakistan as moisture in the pitch and clouds helped the Men in Green pace attack.

India had to defend the joint-lowest total in T20 World Cup history to win the match. Pakistan started decently with Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan adding 26 inside 5 overs. However, Babar Azam (13), Usman Khan (13) and Fakhar Zaman (13) fell in succession.

Mohammad Rizwan anchored one end with 31 in 44 balls, but once his wicket fell, Pakistan found themselves in trouble. Hardik Pandya with 2/24 picked crucial wickets in the middle order and Indian bowlers built pressure on Pakistani lower-order batters.

From being 57/1 in 10 overs, Pakistan went down to requiring 21 runs in the last 12 balls. Jasprit Bumrah bowled an excellent 19th over, picking a wicket and giving away only 3 runs. Arshdeep Singh then defended the 18 runs successfully despite Naseem Shah’s two boundaries in the end.

Pakistan finished on 113/7 and lost the game by 6 runs.

While the Indian team rejoiced at this brilliant victory in New York, Pakistan's Naseem Shah walked off the field with tears in his eyes as he was crushed at his team's loss from a winning position.
