India started their T20 World Cup 2024 with a brilliant win over Ireland on June 5. The match was played at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.

Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to bowl first on a pitch that aided bowlers. Ireland was bowled out for 96, with Gareth Delaney hitting 26 runs. Arshdeep Singh finished with 2/35 in 4 overs, Mohammed Siraj with 1/13 in 3 overs, Jasprit Bumrah with 2/6 in 3 overs, and Hardik Pandya with 3/27.

In response, Virat Kohli got out for 1 in 5 balls, but Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant added 54 runs for the second wicket. Rohit Sharma scored a brilliant 52 in 37 balls with 3 sixes and 4 fours before he was forced to retire hurt due to a hit on the shoulder.

India then lost Suryakumar Yadav, who perished trying to hit a six, but Rishabh Pant, who came out to bat at no.3, remained 34* with 3 fours and 2 sixes and hit an audacious shot for a six to bring India the victory.

Jasprit Bumrah was named Player of the Match for his two wickets. India won the match by 8 wickets and moved to the top of the Group A points table.

The cricket fraternity lauded the Indian team and Rohit Sharma’s knock on social media.
