David Wiese | GettyNamibia triumphed over Oman in a dramatic Super Over finish to begin their T20 World Cup 2024 campaign with a victory at the Kensington Oval, Barbados on Sunday (June 2).

The nail-biting encounter saw both teams ending their innings at the identical score of 109, necessitating the one-over eliminator.

Riding high on confidence, Oman bowlers were expected to do well in the Super Over but they conceded runs for fun as David Wiese and skipper Gerhard Erasmus smashed 21 runs to put Namibia in the driver’s seat.’

In the Super Over, Wiese slammed a boundary and a huge six against Bilal Khan while finishing touches were provided by Erasmus, who ended the over with a couple of boundaries.

After his batting heroics in the Super Over, Wiese starred with the ball for Namibia, allowing Oman to score just 10 runs while picking the wicket of big-hitting Naseem Khushi.

As expected, David Wiese was deservedly adjudged Player-of-the-Match for his stunning exploits in the Super Over.

“Lost a couple of years tonight, don’t know how many I have left in me now. Just been that kind of an emotionally draining game,” Wiese said after the match.

Reflecting on his bowling in the Super Over, Wiese said: “I had a feel for the wicket and knew what I had to execute in the Super Over."

David Wiese also opined that the pitch was bit two-paced and it was not something they had expected.

“The pitch was difficult, was a bit two-paced and different to what we expected. I think we adapted well and it was surely a pitch where you had to spend some time out there,” Wiese said.

“I think if we were chasing 180, we would have had to attack without thinking too much about the pitch, so tough to say what would have been a par total on this wicket,” he further remarked.
