WATCH: “Don't even want to watch the World Cup,” Riyan Parag refuses to predict T20 World Cup 2024 semi-finalists

Parag said he will think about top four teams when he himself plays the T20 World Cup.

Riyan Parag | @thebharatarmy/XRajasthan Royals (RR) batter Riyan Parag on Saturday (June 1) shared his unfiltered thoughts when asked to predict the top four teams in the ongoing T20 World Cup, saying that he is not interested in watching the tournament.

Parag, who often gets trolled on social media for his forthright statements, also stated that he will think about top four teams when he himself participates in the World Cup.

The global showpiece event, which is being jointly hosted by the West Indies and USA, got underway on June 1.

In a video doing rounds on social media, Parag initially indicated that one of his choices would be India but then refrained from answering the top four query.

"It will be a biased answer (prediction on top four teams) but to be very honest I don't even want to watch the World Cup. I'll just see who is winning it at the end and I'll be happy. When I will play the World Cup, I will think about top four and all of that," Parag said in a chat with The Bharat Army.

Last week, Riyan Parag expressed his belief about playing for India at some point, no matter what.

"At some point, you'll have to take me, right? So that is my belief, I'm going to play for India. I don't really care when," Parag told news agency PTI in an exclusive chat.

"When I was not scoring runs - I said this in an earlier interview as well - that I am going to play for India. That is me believing in myself. That is not me being arrogant. That was my plan with my dad (former Railways and Assam player Parag Das) when I started playing cricket at around 10 years old. We (a joint project) were going to play for India regardless of anything," he added.

After years of underperforming in the Indian Premier League, Riyan Parag showed a glimpse of his exceptional talent this season.

The 22-year-old finished the IPL 2024 campaign as the third highest run-getter with 573 runs to his name from 14 innings at a strike rate of 149.21, including four half-centuries.
