The upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, slated to be held in the West Indies and USA from June 1 to June 29, is another opportunity for Team India to end their long-standing global trophy drought.  

After a daunting IPL 2024 season, the Indian team has reached New York in different batches to take part in the showpiece tournament.

On Wednesday (May 29), Rohit Sharma and his men had their first training session. However, a report published in CricketNext claimed that coach Rahul Dravid was not one bit pleased with the “average” facilities given to the side in Cantiague Park.

According to the report, the Men in Blue used three of the six drop-in pitches available at the makeshift venue when they assembled for a net session.

“Everything is makeshift – from pitches to other facilities. Safe to say everything is very average in nature. The team has raised their concerns,” a source close to developments told CricketNext.

The inaugural T20 World Cup champions will play their only warm-up match against Bangladesh on June 1 and will make use of the Cantiague Park facilities till then. In fact, it will remain India’s only training facility as they will be playing three out of their four group fixtures – versus Ireland, Pakistan and USA – in New York – before moving to Florida for the last game against Canada.

Notably, the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York doesn’t have practice facilities and the modular venue will only be used for the actual games. The global body has designated Cantiague Park as the training facility for teams playing their matches in New York.
