Rohit Sharma displayed his wit and humor during the press conference on May 2, 2024, at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai.
Rohit Sharma, India captain, and Ajit Agarkar, chief of BCCI selection committee fielded questions from journos about the Indian squad for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, which was announced yesterday.
One of the questions was whether the Indian squad lacked a proper off-spinner. This question was directed at Rohit Sharma and he humorously put his hand up and pointed to himself as everyone was left in splits.

On a serious note, Rohit explained the reason behind not having a specialist off-spinner citing that Washington Sundar has not been getting opportunities lately.
“Unfortunately, Washy (Washington Sundar) has not been getting opportunities lately. Then it was between Ash (Ravichandran Ashwin) and Akshar, we thought having two left-arm spinners who are playing and doing well, and Ashwin has not played the format for a long time.
Akshar was just in really good form from (post) the 50-overs World Cup onwards when he played the five-match series against Australia, he was the man of the series if I am not wrong. We also considered that it gives us that left-handed option if we have to send in the middle order to do something different,” Rohit said.
India has picked four spinners – Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal are the two wrist spinners while Ravindra Jadeja and Akshar Patel are the all-rounders who bowl left-arm spin.
