Harbhajan Singh backs Sanju Samson to play T20 WC 2024; makes big claim for India’s next T20I captain

The T20 World Cup 2024 will be played in June in West Indies and USA.

Sanju Samson | BCCI-IPLFormer India cricketer Harbhajan Singh has backed Sanju Samson to be picked in the Indian squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 tournament. The tournament will be played in the West Indies and the USA in June this year.

Amongst the many speculations about the potential India squad for the ICC event, the spot of wicketkeeper is the most contested one. The likes of Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, Ishan Kishan, Sanju Samson, and Dinesh Karthik are fighting for the spot.

But Harbhajan Singh has backed RR captain Sanju Samson to take the spot in India’s squad for the T20 World Cup.

Sanju Samson has been in good form for RR in IPL 2024. He has a total of 314 runs from 8 games at an average of 62.80 and a strike rate of 152.42. He has also scored 3 half-centuries this campaign.

Not only this, but Harbhajan Singh also backed him to succeed Rohit Sharma as India's T20I skipper.

As of now, Hardik Pandya has been the vice-captain of India’s vice-captain in white-ball cricket and even captained the side in Rohit Sharma’s absence. But given his poor captaincy for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2024, and the franchise’s performance under his leadership has led Harbhajan Singh to have other ideas.

"Yashasvi Jaiswal's knock is a proof of class is permanent. Form is temporary @ybj_19 and there shouldn't be any debate about Keeper batsman. @IamSanjuSamson should walk in to the Indian team for T20 world cup and also groomed as a next T20 captain for India after Rohit . koi shak???", Harbhajan Singh posted on X.
