Legendary Indian spinner Anil Kumble expressed his lack of surprise at BCCI Secretary Jay Shah's announcement that Rohit Sharma will lead India in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

Hardik Pandya was previously considered to lead the Men in Blue, but him being injury-prone worked against him, and hence the BCCI decided to continue with Rohit Sharma as captain for the mega event.

After the major announcement, Kumble highlighted Rohit's exceptional performance as an Indian skipper and the stability he brings to the team. The former Indian captain stressed the importance of stability heading into the T20 World Cup 2024 and welcomed Shah's decision.

Notably, India recorded 10 straight wins in the ODI World Cup 2024 before losing the final to Australia under Rohit, and now he is hoping to end the ICC drought later this year.

Anil Kumble was quoted as saying by Sports18: “The Rohit Sharma announcement, I don't think was a surprise because I certainly believe that we need that stability, especially at the top. Rohit is someone who has done exceptionally well as India's captain.”

Kumble signed off by saying, “His T20 form in the IPL hasn't been special in the last couple of years but he's a quality player. We saw against Afghanistan, when the team was struggling, he came and scored that wonderful hundred. It's important you have that kind of stability going into the T20 World Cup.”

Notably, Rohit Sharma is leading India in the ongoing five-match Test series against England at home with the third game going on in Rajkot from February 15.
