Rohit Sharma will captain India in T20 World Cup 2024, confirms Jay Shah

Rohit Sharma returned to India T20I team after a year in recent Afghanistan series at home.

Rohit Sharma | GettyBCCI secretary Jay Shah has confirmed that Rohit Sharma will lead India in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. His words came at the unveiling of Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot where India and England will clash in the 3rd Test of the ongoing 5-match series.

The Rajkot stadium was previously known as the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, but has been renamed after the former Saurashtra cricketer, and four-time BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah.

He is currently the secretary of the Saurashtra Cricket Association, chairman of the National Cricket Academy Board, and member of the disciplinary committee of the BCCI.

Jay Shah talked about India’s performance in the ICC World Cup last year, where the Men in Blue won 10 straight games en route to the final, where they lost to Australia in Rohit Sharma's captaincy. The T20 World Cup 2024 will be played in June in the USA and Caribbean and will present the Indian teawith m an opportunity to end their ICC trophy drought.

We may have lost the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup. But we won hearts thereby winning 10 matches in a row. I am confident that India will lift the 2024 T20 World Cup under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy at Barbados,” Jay Shah said at the event.

Shah’s statement came in the presence of India captain Rohit, coach Rahul Dravid, and chairman of men’s senior selection committee Ajit Agarkar.
