Team India’s senior players Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s future in T20I cricket has been a hot topic among experts and fans. After India's loss to Australia in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 final, there were reports that the duo might step away from the shortest format of the game.

The speculation intensified when both Kohli and Rohit weren't picked for the T20I and ODI series against South Africa. While the duo took a break from the white-ball leg of the South Africa tour, they haven’t played a T20I match since the 2022 T20 World Cup semifinal against England.

Reacting to the notions, legendary South African cricketer AB De Villiers said that it is about the hunger in both players. He believes that Rohit and Virat will feature in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024.

AB de Villiers said on his YouTube channel: “We just have to see them there (Rohit & Virat). It's all about their hunger. Do they have the hunger to go there and win the T20 World Cup? I think so. I cannot speak on their behalf but I think they will want to go there and win.”

He continued, “T20 World Cup is a short tournament and you do set yourselves up to have another chance of winning a World Cup. So, I do see them going there.”

De Villiers also lauded India’s decision to appoint Suryakumar Yadav as captain for the recent T20I series against Australia and South Africa, saying this approach can prove to be beneficial for them.

He signed off by saying, “India captained by Suryakumar Yadav is quite a nice move, I like that. He is a bit of a 360 (degree) player. He thinks differently and is a bit creative. It will be nice to watch him lead his troops in South Africa.”

Notably, Rohit and Kohli will be next seen in action during the Test series in South Africa, starting December 26 in Centurion.
