There is a lot of speculation about Rohit Sharma leading India in ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, but BCCI secretary Jay Shah on Saturday (December 9) said that nothing has been decided yet.

After the T20 World Cup 2022, Hardik Pandya led the Indian T20I team until he picked up an ankle injury in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.

In Hardik’s absence, Suryakumar Yadav captained the side in the recently held five-T20I series against Australia at home. Surya will also lead the T20I team in the upcoming tour of South Africa as Pandya is yet to regain his full fitness.

However, some media reports claim that Rohit will be back to lead the national side in the upcoming T20 World Cup, scheduled for June next year in the West Indies and USA.

“What is the need to have clarity right now? It (T20 World Cup) is starting in June, we have the IPL before that and the series against Afghanistan,” Shah told reporters on the sidelines of the Women’s Premier League auction.

Hardik Pandya is currently undergoing rehab for his ankle injury and Shah said the all-rounder could make a comeback sooner than anticipated.

“We are monitoring it on a day-to-day basis. He is at NCA only, he is working very hard and we will let you know in the due course the moment he is fit. He could be fit before the Afghanistan series also,” Shah stated.

Following the all-format tour of South Africa, India will host Afghanistan in a three-match T20I series, starting January 11.
