South Africa star Laura Wolvaardt was left confused and spooked during the post-match press conference after her team’s ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 encounter on February 22, 2023, which was a must-win game for them.
The hosts posted a 10-wicket victory over Bangladesh in Cape Town with Wolvaardt scoring 66* in 56 balls in chase of a 114-run target, while fellow opener Tazmin Brits made 50*.
Earlier Bangladesh was restricted to 113/6 with captain Nigar Sultana top-scoring with 30, while Marizanne Kapp and Ayabonga Khakha took two wickets each.
South Africa will now face England in the second semi-final of the tournament on February 24 in Cape Town, while India and Australia will clash on February 23 in Cape Town as well in the first semi-final.
Meanwhile, in a video shared by ICC on Instagram, South Africa’s Laura Wolvaardt can be seen facing a number of questions from journalists during a conference and then the host can be heard asking a journalist who had joined via Zoom, to ask his question.
In the clip, it is clear Wolvaardt is unaware the questions will now come from Zoom, even though the host mentions it. She is taken aback and left confused when she hears the voice but cannot make out where it is coming from.
The 23-year-old’s eyes dart left and right as she seeks the person and she eventually asks “Where is he?” as an ‘Amir’ asks a question.
‘Amir’ then asks, “Can you hear me?” to which Wolvaardt answers, “Yes, I just don’t know where you are.” There is much laughter before the cricketer is told, “I’m on Zoom.”
Wolvaardt says, “Oh, okay, sorry … like whoa!”
