After Team India’s disappointing exit from the T20 World Cup 2022, the BCCI and the team management would certainly look at the young guns to build a team for the upcoming ICC mega-events, and they will start the process with the T20I series against New Zealand on Friday (November 18).

Notably, India failed to reach the final of the T20 World Cup 2022, having been thrashed by England by 10 wickets in the semi-final at Adelaide Oval.

Well, the next two big events are the ODI World Cup 2023 in India and the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and the USA.

Meanwhile, the Men in Blue are ready to begin the new chapter in New Zealand with the limited-overs series, and former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif backed Sanju Samson to be part of India’s strategy in white-ball cricket after the team’s failure at the T20 World Cup 2022.

The former batter mentioned that Samson was ready to bat at number five, but still, he wasn’t picked in the T20 World Cup squad and that was a big mistake the team made.

Mohammad Kaif was quoted as saying by Sportskeeda: “Speaking of the future, I think one player was ready but was still not picked for the World Cup. Sanju Samson was ready for the No.5 position. He has been playing IPL for many years and has been leading Rajasthan Royals (RR) as well. He guided them to the final too this year.”

However, Kaif feels the selector should now start considering Samson seriously, given his performance for India and in the IPL, to build a team for the next ICC tournaments.

He added, “Samson played match-winning knocks in West Indies. When 2-3 wickets fall, he comes in and attacks. He has the ability to take on spinners and hit them for fours and sixes. He was ready but was not picked for the World Cup. That was a mistake.”
