T20 World Cup 2022: ‘Pressure has to be there on seniors,’ Sehwag wants youngsters’ inclusion in India squad for ICC events

India bowed out of the ongoing T20 World Cup with a 10-wicket loss against England.

India were outplayed in the T20 World Cup 2022 semi-final | GettyTeam India failed to end their much-talked-about ICC trophy drought as they bowed out of the ongoing T20 World Cup on Thursday (November 10).

The Men in Blue suffered a 10-wicket thrashing at the hands of England in the second semi-final at the Adelaide Oval.

After the humiliating exit from the T20 World Cup, Rohit Sharma and his men are garnering criticism from the fans, media and experts alike.

Amid the scrutiny, batting legend Virender Sehwag expressed his displeasure at the team's selection procedure, stating that many young players who featured in the bilateral series are not getting any chances in big tournaments like the World Cup.

"You are winning the bilateral series at home, but you need to see how many of your top players are playing there. They usually take a break, and new players get in who also taste victory in bilateral series. So, if they are winning there, then why can't they be tried here (in the World Cup). You never know. There are players who play the kind of fearless cricket we're talking about. Be it Ishan Kishan, Sanju Samson, Prithvi Shaw, or Ruturaj Gaikwad. All of them are international players and score runs," said Sehwag on Cricbuzz.

"As the seniors have been rested, several youngsters are set to tour New Zealand; what reward will they receive if they win in New Zealand? So, the pressure has to be there on seniors. They should be told that there are boys who are scoring well. And if the seniors don't perform well, they might be told, ‘thank you, very much' by the board," he added.

Coming to the semi-final, India posted 168/6 on the board after being asked to bat first. Hardik Pandya top scored with 33-ball 63 while Virat Kohli contributed 50 off 40 balls.

In reply, England got over the line without breaking a sweat. The duo of Alex Hales (86* off 47 balls) and Jos Buttler (80* off 49 balls) took the Indian bowling attack to the cleaners, sharing an unbeaten 170-run stand to overhaul the target with four overs to spare.

England will now face Pakistan in the T20 World Cup 2022 final at MCG on Sunday (November 13).
