T20 World Cup 2022: Virat Kohli among 9 cricketers shortlisted for Player of the Tournament award

During the marquee event, a number of stellar performances were witnessed from players and teams alike.

The official website of T20 World Cup on Friday (November 11) revealed the list of 9 exceptional performers nominated for the Player of the Tournament award.

Players from England and Pakistan dominate the shortlist, with three nominees from the Three Lions while two make the cut from the Men in Green. The list also features two Indians and one player each from Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka.

The fans have been given a chance to vote and decide the winner. The official website of T20 World Cup also shared a link for the fans to cast their votes.

Here’s a list of the 9 nominees:

Virat Kohli (India) – He played a key role in his side making it to the semis. In 6 games, Kohli aggregated 296 runs at a staggering average of 98.66 and at a decent strike rate of 136.40. He hit four half-centuries in the tournament, including a memorable 53-ball 82* against Pakistan in India's opening fixture.

Suryakumar Yadav (India) – He was among the most impactful batter in the tournament. The dashing right-hander amassed 239 runs in six matches at a sensational strike rate of 189.68. He also slammed three half-centuries, which came against Netherlands, South Africa and Zimbabwe.

Shadab Khan (Pakistan) – He has been one of Pakistan's top performers in their run to the final, starring with both bat and ball. Shadab has picked 10 wickets in six matches, with best figures of 3/22 and a miserly economy of 6.59. On the other hand, he has scored 78 runs in the tournament, including a fifty in a crucial match against South Africa.

Shaheen Afridi (Pakistan) – The left-arm pacer slowly regained his groove in the competition after going wicketless in his first two games. Overall, he has 10 wickets in six matches at an average of 14.20 and an exceptional economy of 6.17.

Sam Curran (England) – He has been England's stand-out bowler in their run to the finals. In five matches, Curran has claimed 10 wickets at 13.60 and an economy of 7.28, including a five-wicket haul against Afghanistan.

Jos Buttler (England) – The England skipper has led his team from the front in the tournament. With the bat, he has made 199 runs in five matches at a healthy strike rate of 143.16, with two half-centuries. He has also eight dismissals from behind the stumps.

Alex Hales (England) – He is England’s leading run-scorer in the tournament on his comeback to the team after three years. Hales has 211 runs in five matches at a strike rate of 148.59 with two half-centuries.

Sikandar Raza (Zimbabwe) – The Zimbabwe all-rounder delivered some stunning performances in the marquee event. He scored 219 runs in eight matches, with one half-century to his name. Raza also proved to be the game-changer with the ball in the famous victory against Pakistan in Perth, with figures of 3/25. Overall, he picked up 10 wickets in the tournament.

Wanindu Hasaranga (Sri Lanka) – He is the current leading wicket-taker in the tournament so far, with 15 wickets in eight matches. His wickets came at a stunning average of 13.26 and a tidy economy of 6.41, with best figures of 3/8.
