Jos Buttler recalled his experience of playing under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy during his initial time in the IPL, as both India and England are gearing up to take on each other in the second semi-final of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2022 on November 10 in Adelaide.

Buttler made his IPL debut in 2016 with MI, but a couple of seasons later he joined the Rajasthan Royals, and now he is still a key member of the franchise.

Sharing his experience of playing under Rohit in 2016 and 2017 in the IPL for Mumbai Indians, the England skipper said that the Indian skipper was tactically sound even at that time. Buttler further said that Rohit has instilled a belief in the Indian cricket team to play with more freedom.

Buttler told Sunday Times: “They are a brilliant team and Rohit Sharma is a brilliant captain who I think has asked them to play more positively and with more freedom. I was a bit young in my IPL journey, but tactically I thought he was very good, making good decisions but not always the obvious ones.”

The wicketkeeper-batter further added, “He has that sense of calm when everything around him is going on at a million miles an hour. A bit like when he bats, he makes it look pretty effortless.”

Meanwhile, Buttler also shared his views on the non-striker’s run-out, as R Ashwin has openly said that he will do whenever the players try to leave the crease early. The England skipper said that everybody has their own point of view while hailing the Indian spinner.

Buttler signed off by saying, “We all have different views on that mode of dismissal. But it is certainly something he sees very much as a fair game. So, we’ve got to make sure we don’t get out like that and it’s the batters’ responsibility. It can’t happen if we’re in the crease. Obviously, he’s a fantastic player, skillful, really inquisitive guy, fierce competitor and a deep thinker about the game.”
