Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan was disappointed that the Tigers yet again failed to cross the finishing line against India, as they suffered a narrow defeat of 5 runs (DLS method) in their must-win Super 12 match of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2022 against the Men in Blue on Wednesday (November 2).
Bangladesh were set to chase a target of 185 runs at the Adelaide Oval, but the target was later reduced to 151 off 16 overs after the rain interrupted the Super 12 clash on Wednesday in Adelaide.
The Tigers had a fine start before the rain, but once play resumed after the interruption, Indian bowlers never allowed the batters to stick on the crease, as they fell 5 runs short of the target to lose the game as well as hopes of making it to the semifinals of the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia.
Liton Das was the leading run-scorer for Bangladesh against India with 60 runs off 27 balls, while Arshdeep Singh (2/38) and Hardik Pandya (2/28) starred with the ball for the Men in Blue.
Shakib Al Hasan said in the post-match presentation ceremony: “It's been the story when we play India. We're almost there but don't cross the line. It was a great game, the crowd enjoyed, both teams enjoyed, in the end, someone has to win and someone has to lose. Litton is batting really well, probably he's our best batsman going around. We thought we could chase this down after that start.”
The veteran all-rounder also revealed that he wanted to attack India’s top order with Taskin Ahmed, which is why he used up the speedster in the first seven overs of the match at the Adelaide Oval. However, Taskin didn’t take a single wicket but conceded only 15 runs in his quota of 4 overs.
Shakib signed off by saying, “Our plan was to get India's top order quickly, that's why I bowled out Taskin, he's been our main bowler. Unfortunately, he couldn't get wickets today, he was unlucky but it was a plan to get India's top order out to dictate the game. We're positive, we wanted to enjoy this World Cup, hopefully we can continue this.”
