Skipper Jos Buttler starred with the bat in England’s T20 World Cup 2022 clash against New Zealand at the Gabba, Brisbane on Tuesday (November 1).
Opting to bat first, Buttler provided his team with a terrific start as he put on 81 runs for the opening wickets with Alex Hales.
While Mitchell Santner broke the partnership by removing Hales on 40-ball 52, Buttler held the one end firmly. The England captain completed his half-century in 35 balls and then went berserk.
Buttler started dealing in boundaries and it seemed that he will notch up his second T20I ton, but it wasn’t meant to be as he got run out in the penultimate over after scoring 73 off 47 balls.
With this knock, Jos Buttler broke Eoin Morgan’s record to become England's highest run-getter in the shortest format. He achieved this feat in his 100th T20I appearance.
Jos Buttler’s knock was studded with 7 fours and 2 sixes. However, the shot that caught everyone’s attention came in the 17th over against Trent Boult.
Boult smashed Boult over the umpire's head and the ball sailed over the sight screen for a maximum. The shot left everyone in awe and many compared it with Virat Kohli’s iconic six against Haris Rauf at MCG earlier in this tournament.

Coming to the match, Liam Livingstone produced a cameo (20 off 14 balls) at the fag end of the innings to take England to 179/6 in 20 overs.
For the Kiwis, spinners Ish Sodhi (1-23) and Mitchell Santer (1-25) starred with the ball, claiming one wicket each and also returning with an economical spell.
