Ashwin stopped midway through his action | Hotstar/ScreengrabApart from the fierce contest between bat and ball, fans witnessed a spicy moment in the T20 World Cup 2022 clash between India and South Africa at Perth on Sunday (October 30), involving R Ashwin and David Miller.

During the 18th over of South Africa’s innings, Ashwin stopped mid-way through his run-up upon realising that Miller appeared to be leaving his crease early.

On this occasion, Ashwin gave a stern warning to Miller without saying a word but by simply staring at him. As soon as Miller realised that Ashwin had seen him moving out of his crease, he backed up.

Notably, Ashwin's act of running out Rajasthan Royals' (RR) Jos Buttler for backing up too far as captain of Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) in IPL 2019 had triggered a massive uproar and polarised opinions.

While many had supported him as run-out at the non-striker’s end is within the laws of the game, some cited the spirit of the game to crucify his antics.
